    Join ULI Nashville for an inspiring event as our city charts a course to revitalize Second Avenue. Learn about progress made so far, potential hurdles, and upcoming opportunities as this vital and historic part of Nashville is restored. Experts will speak about the Second Avenue recovery process: successes so far and next steps. Collaboration among civic, public, and private sector leaders will ensure that Second Avenue retains its character and becomes a welcoming destination for both residents and guests of Nashville.

    Michelle Scopel has over 18 years of experience in Project Management and Environmental Services working in both the public and private sectors. She has been an active part of some of the city’s high-profile developments, including the First Horizon Park project, the Fairgrounds Campus Improvements Projects, MLS Soccer Stadium, and is currently managing the design and construction of the Second Avenue Rebuild following the Christmas Day 2020 blast. She is a true team player and quick to lean in on complex projects to keep the team moving forward in a positive way. Michelle is a Native Nashvillian and is passionate about sustainable and smart growth that is inclusive for all.
     
     
    Kim Hartley Hawkins, ASLA
    Principal Landscape Architect
    Hawkins Partners, Inc.
    Kim Hartley Hawkins, ASLA, is a Founding Principal at Hawkins Partners, Inc., Landscape Architects. She holds a degree in landscape architecture from Louisiana State University. With over three decades of experience in planning, design, construction and community building, Kim brings a wealth of knowledge and skills to every project. Through her vision and leadership, she has engaged clients, consultants, and citizens to create memorable solutions for our clients across the country. Her commitment to enhancing the human experience extends beyond her responsibilities at HPI. In addition to being a member of ULI since 2013, Kim is also a past District Chair and was co-chair of ULI Nashville Spring Meeting 2019. Since 2021, Kim has served as the Governance Chair for ULI Nashville. Kim has been at the helm of numerous boards and organizations and has spoken at national and international conferences on placemaking and integrative stormwater systems.
     
     
    J. Cyril Stewart, AIA
     
    Practicing architecture in middle-Tennessee for forty-five years, Cyril Stewart has a wide variety of experience in office, healthcare, hospitality, historic architecture and urban planning. He specializes in historic preservation, adaptive reuse, and designing facilities that fit into their community context. His work in urban and community planning and visioning serves as a foundation to all he does. In Nashville he is the Chair of the Friends of Fort Negley, past President of the board of the Civic Design Center, past President of the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and past national board member of the American Institute of Architects. He is the past Chair of the Building Healthy Places Action Council of the Urban Land Institute. He is the Vice-Chair of the Metro Nashville Historic Zoning Commission. When the explosion occurred on Christmas day, he was appointed to chair the Historic Commission’s 2nd Avenue Rebuilding Task Force by the Historic Commission and Mayor and is part of the Mayor’s Advisory Group for rebuilding 2nd Avenue. His largest current project is the transformation of the O’More campus in Franklin, Tennessee to the Franklin Grove Estate and Gardens.
