Like many U.S. cities, Nashville’s postwar development patterns prioritized private automobile use at the expense of other transportation options. In the last 10 years, Nashville has pushed to expand transportation options, including transit, walking, and cycling. This includes work by Metro Nashville Government, nonprofit advocacy groups, and institutions such as surrounding colleges, hospitals, and other large employers. Success stories include an ever growing greenway trail system, a popular bike and pedestrian bridge across the Cumberland River, miles of new bike lanes, as well as several new complete-street projects featuring separated bike lanes and two-way cycle tracks. This bike tour will feature a 12-mile loop that visits some of Nashville’s most vibrant districts and neighborhoods, including Sobro, the Gulch, the Nations, Sylvan Park, and Midtown. A relaxing pace will allow the group to take in a wide range of urban development patterns, including established historic neighborhoods, rapidly changing infill neighborhoods, and dense mixed-use districts. This tour will stop along the way for complimentary refreshments and smoothies, and is expected to last approximately three hours from start to finish including stops. As we pass them, we will pause at multiple new developments along the way, including ULI Nashville Excellence in Development award-winning projects.
