ULI Nashville - Opportunity Zones: Updates and Unintended Consequences
ULI Nashville’s NEXT Members present Thought Leadership on…
Opportunity Zones Update:
Intended /Unintended Consequences
& What is Being Done
Opportunity Zones is a public policy designed to encourage investment in economically distressed areas: Tax incentives are offered to investors of Opportunity Zones to build-up underserved communities. Instead, after a couple of years in, a recent report found that the OZ tax breaks have disproportionately benefited wealthy investors and underwrote big projects that accelerate gentrifying neighborhoods. There was far less impact on stabilizing fragile neighborhoods through investment in small businesses and community-scale, attainably priced projects.
This ULI Nashville NEXT discussion will provide answers to the timely questions, “What has been the actual impact of OZs? Are they functioning as designed? What has worked and what hasn’t…and why?” We also will explore what the future of Opportunity Zones are given the answers to those questions.
This interactive conversation with area developers will be moderated by Lamont Price, TN Investco Director, TN Department of Economic & Community Development and will feature developer Andrew Donchez, Director, SomeraRoad.
OZs are an important development tool for Nashville’s future. Come join the conversation on what it is and what the OZ future can be!
